Is Martha going to the dogs?

May 18th, 2010 by Deb McLean

There aren’t many dogs bigger that Martha Stewart.  And now, she’s extending her brand into an upcoming launch at Petsmart.  This is a woman that before going to prison (for five months), lamented that she would miss her beloved pets — cats, dogs, horses, canaries and chickens.  It’s clear she has a sincere passion for her animals.

The pet business is big business and has done well right through the recession.  Martha’s retail business has been going strong despite her company losing revenue due to the demise of its Kmart deal.  She has serious presence now at Home Depot, Macy’s and Michaels.  Clearly all outlets are sound choices for the extension of the Martha Stewart brand.

Martha Stewart is going to the dogs and to the lovers of backyard entertaining and to the crafters and to whatever group of consumers sees her as a credible source for products they need.   This is one dog I’d put my money on.
