Microsoft launches customized tag in Tampa Bay area

October 13th, 2010 by Deb McLean

Microsoft has created an unusual customized tag for a Tampa area community.  You’ll notice a colorful poster in the store fronts throughout Main Street in Lakewood Ranch. These businesses can be tagged using bar codes.

Microsoft teamed up with Lakewood Ranch and its 600 businesses to become the first place in America to be tagged.

By downloading an app, a consumer can scan the code using their Smart phone and download business information, coupon offers, enter contests, and even see 90-second long promotional videos.

There are many ways companies can use tagging to generate business including launching an online ordering business.  A consumer can scan the colorful bar code and call up the menu and order right from their phone.

This is just another example society’s shift and dependence on mobile devices and why businesses must continue to consider new innovative marketing tactics to reach those consumers on the move!

Microsoft officials say the tagging is free. To download the app go to

  • Cool stuff here, Deb!!! It’s totally clear that the electronic world is driving so many choices by consumers, potential clients and Microsoft is very smart to include businesses in the tagging process! I’d better download the app now, before I’m behind :)
