Stand up…your Father’s passin…

May 11th, 2011 by Deb McLean

One of my favorite classic movies is To Kill a Mockingbird.  I sat down last weekend with Casey and watched it with her.  Atticus Finch is my hero.  A man to be admired because he always did the right thing regardless of color, social status or what the majority thought.  He tried to instill those same virtues in his children.  It worked.  But, not because of the things he said, but more importantly by what he did and how he handled himself in times of diversity.

As parents, that’s our role.  How we treat others is ultimately how their children will treat others.  Show them that we are kind.  Show them that we believe everyone is equal regardless of where they come from or the fact that they are a little different.  Show them that honest and integrity is the ONLY way to live one’s life.

That is our legacy.
